Dogs of Paris

The Dirty Dogs of Paris by Boris O' Klein

Place de la Concorde holds a special place in my heart when it comes to Parisian spots. It's a vibrant hub where one can truly experience the diverse tapestry of this sprawling city. During the daylight hours, you'll witness the graceful stride of fashionistas in their six-inch Louboutin heels along Champs-Elysées avenue, while tourists pedal their way through Tuileries garden en route to the Louvre. Meanwhile, locals spread out picnic blankets on the manicured lawns, indulging in baguette sandwiches and sipping their flat whites for a delightful breakfast. From a distance, you might even catch a glimpse of Yellow Jacket activists assembling, their voices united in protest against tax increases.

The Place de la Concorde is also a gathering place for street performers, each with their own unique talents. Some dance with graceful precision, others captivate with their silent miming, and the sound of accordions and fiddles fills the air, creating a lively atmosphere. But amidst this bustling human activity, my heart is most drawn to the dogs of Paris. They come in all shapes and sizes, reflecting the diversity and charm of their owners.

The small breeds like toy poodles, spaniels, Chihuahuas, Frenchies, Yorkies, and Corgis are often adorned in cute marinières and berets by their doting owners. On the other end of the spectrum, the larger breeds such as Shepherds, Malamutes, St. Bernards, Great Danes, Boxers, Rottweilers, Mastiffs, and Dalmatians can be found lounging under the warm sun or energetically playing fetch with their devoted moms and dads in the park. However, there are two dogs in particular that have captured my heart: Donny the Dalmatian and Uly the Boxer.

Donny can always be seen strutting through the streets alongside his hip parents, Deirdre and Grey, who seem to bring a boombox wherever they go. Donny finds joy in watching Deirdre and Grey groove to the beats of French Reggaeton, his spots dancing in rhythm. Uly, on the other hand, exudes a friendly and calming presence. She often waits patiently outside the bathroom of a flea market in Paris, offering a warm handshake to those who exit. The genuine and gentle stare she shares with strangers and friends alike is truly endearing.

Oh, how I adore the dogs of Paris! They bring a special kind of joy and companionship, reminding us of the unconditional love and warmth that these furry friends offer. In the midst of the busy metropolis, they bring a sense of comfort and connection, a reminder of the simple pleasures that can be found in the company of our four-legged fur babies.
