unknown sunshine
by Saul Leiter
she rolled down the car windows, inviting in
the morning air to cool the steaming auto.
with hair let loose, she leaned on the window sill,
as the wind buffeted, they sought musical thrill.
shuffling through a playlist, both good and bad,
Nujabes, Hagen, Gaye, Eurythmics, they had,
then "I Wanna Be Like You" from Jungle Book played,
unexpectedly perfect, their musical escapade.
he started to mimic King Louis, flapping his lips,
she tapped her toes, feeling the music's bliss.
their synchronized moves blended jazz and discord,
a dance of joy, their spirits fully explored.
"prrrtpkshipo prrrtpkshki supak," they sang,
"schupak schupak schupak schupikpak," the rhythm sprang.
together they sang, together they danced,
driving farther from home, their souls entranced.
"prrrtpkshipo prrrtpkshki supak,"
"schupak schupak schupak schupikpak,"
into the unknown sunshine they went,
lost in the moment, their hearts content.
